Jaden's Heart Cath Surgery

Well, the Heart Cath surgery came and went without any excitement. Praise God. The surgery was for anASD which is pretty common. Dr Khan was able to close the hole Jaden had in his heart with a "moderate" size device. He originally thought that there was one small hole but found two small holes when he went in with the camera. The surgery took about 45 minutes but the actual time from the nurse taking him away to us being able to see him was about an hour and 15 min. We were treated like kings at Driscoll Children's Hospital and were blessed to see a lot of people from our church there, including our overnight nurse. Jaden had everything he could ever want. He was sipping on juice, had The Wiggles playing on a TV/DVD combo the nurse brought in especially for him, and he was doing so well that by that evening, he was eating Chicken strips w/fries. Praise God. He got up the next morning and had 2 sausage patties and a biscuit. He was so spoiled, that i had to take him down a notch when he got home. Just kidding. But, he really was milking it.
Jaden had his follow up appointment this week and the doc said he was doing very well. He actually grew 1/2 an inch in a little over a week and his vitals were very stable and considered "normal." He's been talking a lot more and has kept up his appetite, so it looks like the next thing for him will be to take out his G-tube. Please pray that we don't ever have to use the tube again and that we can take it out asap. Pictures are as follows: 1. The day we got home. Apparently he was ready to leave again. 2. Jaden chillin' with some sausage, the wiggels, balloons etc. 3. The chart from the doctor describing the repair. The actual repair is the anvil looking thing that is above the circled number 83. 4. The incision at the top of his right leg (yes he can do a split). 5. The morning after taking a sonogram.

More Pics. The pic with mountains in the background is from our time in Tucson, AZ. Jaden went to one of the best Speech Therapists in the Country for 1 week of therapy sessions, while mom got certified in "Yoga for the Special Needs Child". Dad drove the "taxi". The last picture is at Jaden's first HOOKS game with our good friends, Alana and Brandon Manrow.

A Little History

Here's a little background information on our precious Jaden. Jaden was born on March 03, 2004 @10:30am, which was 1 day before full term. He was 6lb 9oz and 19in. in length. He was delivered by an emergency c-section and was diagnosed with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) and was also in need of open heart surgery to repair 2 defects. The heart defects were Tetrology of Fallot and AV Canal. Jaden was immediately given an NG tube for feeding, because he was using more energy than he was receiving from his intake and was showing an aversion to feeding as well. Jaden spent 3 weeks at Spohn Hospital, during which time he was given a G-tube which was for feeding directly to the stomach. Open heart surgery was on hold until Jaden reached 10 pounds, which he finally reached when he was 3 months old.
Dr. Morales from Driscoll Children's Hospital performed the surgery and Jaden came through with flying colors. He was home 1 week afterwards and has had his ups and downs since. Jaden has gone through reflux medications due to chronic vomiting, he's had swallow studies, ph probes, hospital stays due to dehydration, numerous stomach bugs, breathing treatments due to colds and asthma like symptoms, speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. Jaden has been through a lot but has always come through by the grace of God.
The pictures below show just a little bit of Jaden's first years. You'll see grandma Davila, Mamaw & Pampaw Trevino, Pastor Bil and Mom and Dad in there. Sorry about them not being in order but you'll get the picture. Get it? You'll get the picture? Hah!
There's much more to come so come back soon.
